Precision Meets Compassion: St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City Unveils the Country’s Most Comprehensive MRI Fleet

Posted on Mar 31, 2026

Taguig City, March 18, 2026 -- In a milestone event that reinforces its position as the leader in Philippine healthcare, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City recently held a formal blessing for its two newest Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) units. This expansion officially establishes St. Luke’s as the home of the most comprehensive MRI fleet in the Philippines, now boasting five state-of-the-art scanners dedicated to delivering faster, more accurate, and patient-centric diagnostics.

The ceremony, attended by hospital leadership, medical specialists, and ancillary staff, celebrated more than just new equipment; it marked a significant step forward in the hospital's mission to reduce wait times and provide tailored care for every patient.

A New Standard in Patient Experience

For many patients, the most stressful part of a medical journey is the wait. St. Luke’s has moved decisively to change that. With five operational units, the hospital can now accommodate a higher volume of studies while ensuring that urgent and emergency ("stat") cases are prioritized without disrupting scheduled appointments.

Rafael C. Solis, Executive Vice President and Chief Hospital Operations Officer, emphasized that while technology is vital, the human experience remains the true benchmark of success.

He noted that the true strength of the institution lies in the synergy of its people: "We have world-class expertise and technology across practically all disciplines and specializations... but it is teamwork and passion in delivering the best patient care and experience that make St. Luke's Medical Center number one". He was referring to the hospital’s recognition as among the top hospitals in the Philippines in the 2026 World’s Best Hospitals Survey of Newsweek and Statista.

Solis further highlighted that every diagnostic test forms part of a larger story. "Each test, each experience, each moment that patients have with us contributes to the total patient experience.”

Technology Tailored to the Patient

The strength of the St. Luke’s MRI fleet lies in its diversity. Rather than a "one-size-fits-all" approach, the hospital utilizes a range of field strengths—from the high-resolution Siemens Magnetom Vida 3.0 Tesla, ideal for complex neurological imaging, to the innovative Siemens Magnetom Free.Star  0.55 Tesla.

Dr. Maricar P. Reyes, Head of the Institute of Radiology, explained that the new 0.55 Tesla Siemens Magnetom Free.Star is a game-changer for patient comfort. Its  metal artifact reduction" capabilities make it ideal for post-surgical follow-ups, particularly beneficial for pediatric patients, and it operates with significantly less noise compared to higher-field systems.

"The 3D Vida MRI represents the forefront of high-field imaging technology," she explained. "It allows radiologists to visualize diseases with greater clarity, enabling  more informed clinical decision-making."

"Each MRI system has a specific role. Having multiple platforms allows us to select what is optimal for both the clinical question and the patient—rather than forcing the patient to fit the machine," Dr. Reyes shared.

While the technology is world-class, the leadership at St. Luke’s emphasizes that machines are only as effective as the people who operate them. The Institute of Radiology is staffed by subspecialty-trained radiologists who provide expert interpretation across fields such as Pediatric Radiology, Musculoskeletal Radiology, Neuroradiology, Abdominal Imaging, and Cardiovascular Imaging.

Human Touch Beyond Technology

Dr. Anthony R. Perez, SVP and Medical Director, closed the event by highlighting the human element behind the innovation.

"When people ask me what separates St. Luke's from the rest, the first thing that comes to mind isn't the facilities or equipment... it’s the people,” he said. He emphasized that these advancements ultimately serve the patient's story: "Every patient who comes through our doors has a story to tell... and it’s important that each experience they have with us reflects compassion, excellence, and care."

By housing the most comprehensive MRI fleet in the country, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City reinforces its role as a leader in diagnostic excellence. Operating 24/7, the Institute of Radiology combines subspecialized expertise with world-class technology to ensure every patient receives precise, high-quality care.
