Minimally-invasive Surgery
Minimally-invasive surgery involves using a variety of techniques to perform a surgical procedure while reducing trauma to the patient’s body. Unlike in traditional open surgery, minimally invasive surgeries provide less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and fewer complications to the patient.
Laparoscopic surgeries are among the most common minimally-invasive procedures that we do. With its use of a slender telescope or laparoscope and instruments inserted through small incisions, the surgeon is able to do complicated operations which otherwise would require large open wounds.
Minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgeries can be done for a variety of cases, such as gallbladder, intestinal, liver, transoral, and vascular surgeries.
State-of-the-art Robotics Surgery
In 2010, SLMC installed the da Vinci Si, an advanced robotic surgical system. Since then, SLMC’s robotic surgery has successfully conducted over 1,000 procedures across several disciplines, such as gynecologic, urologic, and otolaryngologic cases.
Robotic surgery, a minimally-invasive surgery platform, makes use of computerized robotic arms controlled by a trained surgeon to do precision surgery through small incisions.
Robotic technology has become the state-of-the-art in minimally-invasive surgery.

1. Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (EMD) that allow the endoscopic removal of large and deep intestinal polyps or lesions instead of removing these through open surgery
2. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) to treat aortic stenosis without the need for open heart surgery
3 . Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) to treat peritoneal carcinomatosis, where cancer has spread and affected the peritoneum or the tissue that surrounds our abdominal organs and is usually considered as untreatable
4. Cryoballoon Ablation for patients with atrial fibrillation, thus allowing them to recover in as fast as two weeks.
5. Stereotactic Radiosurgery for patients with tumors that are difficult to remove through traditional surgical procedures.
